One does have to get used to the large size, the feel of the bamboo and the surprising softness of the bristles, but that doesn't take long. The toothbrush does wear out a little faster than the plastic ones, but I am notoriously hard on toothbrushes. I am used to a smaller electrical toothbrush head, so the large nylon bristles did aggravate my gums initially. As for the bamboo taste, it is distinctive, sort of like an ice lolly popsicle stick.
